The Blue Sky Tarot — based on Chapter 11, “The Oracle.” I realize that the figures projected by the Oracle Turret are probably meant to be simpler Aperture pictograms — any other interpretations, I’d love to see! — but I couldn’t help but imagine Rider-Waite style imagery, and then had to illustrate.
Chell as “Strength” — I wanted her pose to mimic the way she holds the portal device. Somehow that morphed into a unicorn… a unicorn which shoots portals. Ladies and gentlemen, the unicron.
GLaDOS as “The Empress” — a really tough one to do, because the Empress is one of my favorite cards! But I kept in mind that she may signify the environment or nature, and I tried to show it by having her fade into the castle around her. Also totally inspired by that sweet Medieval Portal AU.
Wheatley as “The Fool” — Inspired in part by the Fool of Robert M. Place’s Alchemical Tarot. The butterfly is a common symbol of rebirth and innocence in the face of the world. The apple speaks for itself. If you like, imagine the “0” above him as a bagel… otherwise there is no place for bagels in the Tarot.
Anne Boleyn didn’t exactly get a ‘happily ever after’, but neither did the men who so ruthlessly brought her down:
